La Elvira, desarrollllo agrícola olvidado

Abstract

This article is a thoughtful critic of the idea that leaders and managers of different governmental, private and academia institutions have had in relation to the Rural Development of Cali, about the importance of the contribution made by the “peasant agricultural sector” to the municipal GDP. It highlights the fundamental relationship that exists between the level of productivity and competitiveness that the peasant horticultural crops can reach with these institutions’ guidance, promotion and support with technical assistance, agricultural credit, crop management and sale. The lack of integration and cohesion among these institutions generates a contrary effect. This article proposes several strategies and policies for agricultural development in La Elvira based on the author’s experience as an agricultural economist and other persons that are interested in and knowledgeable about this matter.
