Abstract

Studying Social Work exposes young people to the worst social scenarios of violence, poverty and marginality, added to the problems faced by university students in contemporary society, constitute two dimensions that frame the need to measure aspects of mental health. Zung scales for anxiety and depression were applied to a non-probabilistic sample of undergraduate and graduate students (n=160) and correlated with composition variables of the participant population. A low level of anxiety and a high level of depression stand out, both results are strongly associated with the level (undergraduate or postgraduate p<0.01), sex (p<0.01), health status and economic situation of the student (p<0.05 and p<0.01). It concludes a worrying level of depression, especially in younger students and a direct relationship with the study variables.
