Health care a manifest need: street-inhabitants with COVID-19

Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of the street-inhabitants that consulted the San Juan de Dios Hospital with a diagnosis of COVID-19, in the period between March 2020 and February 2021.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study with analytical scope was carried out, with information from the epidemiological reported to the Epidemiological Surveillance Service (SIVIGILA) by the San Juan de Dios Hospital and the health clinical record of street-inhabitants patients diagnosed with COVID-19.
Results: 212 cases of street-inhabitants with COVID-19 were screening, presenting a median age of 39 years, 169 cases (79.7%) were men, from the Subsidized regime 130 cases (61.0%), followed by the population without any social security scheme (uninsured poor population) 71 cases (36.0%). 196 cases (92.5%) received hospital management and 23 cases (10.9%) required ICU.
Conclusions: The street-inhabitants subjects and variables of age, days of stay and lethality, led to identify the severity of the SARS-CoV-2 infection when compared with the general population infected by SARS-CoV-2 in Colombia. These findings can be used for decision-making and establishing policies on this event both in community settings and in individual settings of the street- inhabitants population of the city of Cali.
