Experience of the Consultorio Rosado of the San Juan de Dios Hospital, Cali, in the managment of cancer. A meeting point between Science and Humanism

Abstract

Cancer is considered a growing public health problem, characterized by the high costs. Derived from the multiple diagnostic procedures and treatments that depended on the stage of the disease. Forces the institutions to establish containment measures and continuous improvement to reduce negative impact in patients and the problems that it can generate in health care systems.
The following narrative shows how the creation of the health care program for cancer patients can improve early detection and the implementation of medical and surgical treatments and creating effective care routes to elimination of “barriers”.
San Juan de Dios Hospital, an institution of medium complexity of care, allows the creation of the Consultorio Rosado to organize and integrate the care of these patients, with an initial focus on breast cancer but with the time opens up to other types of cancers. We show the experience of a care program, which is private, but which is articulated with the public sector for its operation. The results obtained are shown, based on the quality management indicators, the different threats, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities and continuous improvement.
