Abstract

Among the clinically relevant risk factors for acquiring tuberculosis is Diabetes Mellitus (DM), which is also considered a worldwide epidemic. This affects the deterioration of the patient's immune system and can also have a negative impact on the patient's therapeutic success and survival.

A preliminary analysis conducted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) indicates that more than 30,000 cases of tuberculosis are related to diabetes mellitus in the Americas each year.

It has been observed that the abandonment of anti-tuberculosis treatment and lack of adherence to anti-diabetic treatment has serious connotations, among them the physical deterioration of the patient and the possibility of stimulating bacterial resistance mechanisms, identified by the spread of the infection and perpetuating the existence of this disease.
