Solid waste generated in productive sectors represents a source of opportunities if managed appropriately, because operative costs and negative impacts to the environment could be decreased. This work presents a reflexive approach towards the reverse logistics- RL relationship to the integral and sustainable solid waste management - ISSWM within productive sectors; this relationship allows gaining efficiency by aggregating value to the materials suitable to be reintegrated the productive cycle. An exploratory analysis was conducted by means of collecting and analyzing information from international and local sources about the developments on RL and ISSWM. The analysis carried out shows that RL is in the early stage of development at the colombian productive sector and despite the current knowledge on the subject at strategic sectors such as industrial, governmental and researching, it is necessary the strengthening of strategies that allow to decision makers a better understanding of the economical, social and environmental benefits related to the ISSWM application.
