Abstract

Operations management, material handling, and layout design in distribution centers are activities that are directly inter-related, since the design of the layout considers the flow of material and is basically oriented towards optimization of the trips to obtain the shortest displacement as regards picking (Gue and Meller, 2009). Thus, a good layout design of a distribution center should guarantee easy and efficient access to the site where the goods are located. This article proposes a methodological proposal to evaluate the impact of the configurations of aisles in the distribution centers, comparing the traditional configuration with the fishbone configuration, taking into account various orders within a request and different storage modalities.
