Determinants of the Strategic Plans of the Information Systems in Small and Medium-sized Colombian businesses

The objective of this article is to analyze the strategic planning processes of information systems in 107 small and medium-sized companies registered with the Cali Chamber of Commerce up to the year 2012. The research from which this article is drawn is centered on the applied management models in strategic planning of information systems and is part of the results obtained in the project whose general objective is the design of a model of internal data processing control for the small and medium-sized business sector. The contributions and results obtained made it possible to determine whether factors such as growth, decision making, and strategic alignment have any relationship with the implementation of strategic plans of information systems in small and medium-sized businesses while, at the same time, contributing conceptual elements within the macro project whose purpose is to structure a proposal of internal data processing control based on the definition of satisfaction and management indicators as evaluation tools. This work contrasts the productivity of small and medium-sized businesses that advance great technological investments, the product of proper planning of the information systems, with those that do not do so.
