Measuring efficiency in terms of leadership among graduate students and organizational leaders

Abstract

This paper presents the results of a research process that involved leadership theories, statistical multivariate techniques, and operations research togenerate a proposal of a mathematical model for evaluating and rating the dimension of leadership among graduate students in Human and Organizational Development Management at Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira and organizational leaders in the central western metropolitan area (AMCO from its Spanish acronym), which consists of the municipalities of Pereira, Dosquebradas, and Virginia in the State of Risaralda in Colombia. The methodology for this research was based on the use of statistical techniques for establishing and analyzing the relationships among the most representative variables of leadership within AMCO. Subsequently, a mathematical model of efficiency was devised using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique. This provided the basis for creating an instrument for measuring the relative level of efficiency of regional leaders and MBA students. This made it possible to perform a diagnosis of the respondents’ performance in relation to the variables analyzed and to determine which ones should be strengthened in order to improve the dimension of leadership. This project is not only aimed at improving the efficiency of leaders, but also seeks to become a reference for training and improvement proposals designed to enhance performance by developing capabilities that are now being underused.
