Impacto del tlc con estados unidos sobre los sectores económicos colombianos

This article presents an analysis of the influence of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States of America on the main economic Colombian sectors. The study covers sectors such as livestock, agriculture, and poultry farming.
For the stockbreeders it has been a negative balance due to the fact that they have not been able to export meats or milk because they do not meet the health requirements that the USA demands in order to allow the access of quality meat and diary products. ICA and INVIMA are the government entities in charge of acquiring the sanitary certificates. On the other hand, the agricultural sector has shown better results since the flowers, coffee, and banana imports have increased not to mention the fact that this sector has widened the offer of other products. The cereal growers have not had the same fate because of the high costs of production of their products. The poultry sector has shown the worst results, where, according to FENAVI’s director, Colombia has not exported to the USA “not even one feather”, because the cost of production in North America are way below ours.
