Abstract

This article pursues to analyze the productivity growing, the technical progress and the change in Latin American high complexity hospitals and clinics for the period 2010- 2011. This analysis was carried out by using the Data Involving Analysis - DEA- and the Malmquist Index for a Group of 27 hospitals and clinics of high complexity in 10 Latin American countries. The results showed that more than 65% of the Latin American hospitals and clinics of high complexity reached the efficiency in the allotted period of time. In addition to this, more than the 48% medical center grew in their productivity Thanks to their efficiency increase and technological improvement. It is important to say that the vast majority of these hospitals and clinics are private business oriented and are located countries such as Colombia and México which are well known by their efforts to foster health turism. In general terms, the Latin American high complexity hospitals and clinics have used their resources efficiently to wait on their patients. They are therefore adviced to keep strengthening their human resources (Doctors and Nurses) to keep increasing not only their efficiency levels but also productivity ones.
