Introduction: Mental health has had an impact on the COVID-19 pandemic in healthcare workers. Understanding and addressing mental health in this population has become a challenge in the current phase of the pandemic.
Aim: Describe the risks in mental health, consumption of psychoactive substances and violence in health workers during the period of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: Descriptive-correlational cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 3,163 health professionals, through incidental non-probabilistic sampling, using instruments such as the Self-Reported Questionnaire (SRQ), Connor-Davidson Reduced Resilience Scale, ASSIST, in addition to sociodemographic data that inquired about violence and seeking help during the first phase of the pandemic.
Results: 27.4% presented symptoms of anxiety or depression, 4.9% presented suicide risk, 14.1% presented moderate or high consumption of some substance and 7.18% were exposed to some type of violence. Regarding resilience, an average of 28.4 was found.
Conclusion: The symptoms found are validated by the world literature, in addition the level of resilience is considerably lower in people who present these risks. Mental health during the pandemic in Colombia showed important implications at the affective level and in relation to substance use in health workers, in relation to the use of psychoactive substances, the increase in violence and the search for help for these problems.
