Resocialization of women deprived of liberty: Labeling and public policies, a critical analysis

This article contributes to the understanding of public prison and penitentiary policies in Colombia and their effectiveness in the resocialization of some women deprived of liberty at the Medellín High and Medium Security Prison and Penitentiary Complex, Pedregal. It also contributes to the understanding of social labeling and its impact on the success or failure of public policies and their commitment to eradicating recidivism. To this end, the Biographical-Performative Laboratory "The Metamorphoses of Ulysses" was conceived and implemented. This innovative methodology, through the transliteration of the Ulysses myth, encourages participants to recognize themselves as legal subjects and to narrate their Odyssey in prison and beyond. The results of this laboratory, analyzed qualitatively and from a critical perspective, made it possible to highlight the gap between theory and practice in prison and penitentiary matters, the persistence of the negative impact of labeling on resocialization processes, and the significant challenges that exist in eradicating recidivism and reducing crime.
