investigations about this topic have used methodologies based on surveys. The main contribution of this work is the construction of a statistical model in which corruption is measured through real data resulting from the fiscal responsibility sentences given by the Republic’s General Comptroller’s Office. This was a ten year study (2000-2009) that covered six Colombian Departments that during this period registered the highest number of corruption cases. The results of this study show an important statistic relationship between corruption and the indexes used to quantify poverty levels, economic growth and violence. Nevertheless, the effects over the chosen variables were not statistically significant.
