This article reports on the results of a case study investigation, using the semi-structured interview for the construction of the life story of a young graduate of an institutionalized institution of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute, ICBF. The objective is to analyze the factors of resilience raised by Grotberg (1995), according to which he considers himself a resilient individual, as one who can overcome adversities and be transformed by them; working from the factors “I have”, “I am, I am” and “I can”, as categories of analysis. It was found: in the factor “I have” that stands out in the young a small support network, which has managed to build links with people who contribute to their well-being; in the factor “I am” and “I am” that the young person has internal skills such as independence, autonomy, optimism and empathy. Also, that the young person lacks in terms of his self-esteem; is a shy person who fails to recognize their own positive aspects and strengths. In the factor “I can” it is emphasized that the young man establishes relationships that act as a protective factor for him and provide him with support to handle situations of conflict. In this way we can conclude that the young person is resilient due to his personal ability to analyze his own behavior, make decisions aimed at his well-being and establish relationships that are positive and mitigate risk factors.
