The global hospital crisis is the result of the increasing demand for medical attention, a scarcity of resources and medical personnel, which leads to prolonged waiting times and a decrease in the quality of care. This work aims to conduct a global analysis of the strategic factors of current hospitals and contrast them with those of smart hospitals. Reports and articles on capability and resource theory in relation to smart hospital development were analyzed to achieve this goal. The results suggest that five transformations are required to transition to a smart hospital: i) environmental and sustainability, ii) technological, iii) geopolitical and geo-static, iv) political-institutional, peace and security, and v) socio-cultural and digital.
