¿Why do tourists come? comparative research between favelas and popular settlements in Medellín

The objective of the research is to identify the motives that drive tourists from Medellín - Colombia and Rio de Janeiro - Brazil to visit informal territories. This qualitative research uses the Chi-square testing method. This research uses a statistical test as a procedure to analyze the data. The main results show that, despite the similarity of the territories in relation to processes of informal settlements, the reasons which today tourists are persuaded in the two countries are different, however, the comparative allows you to elucidate some similar motives such: the possibility to contribute to local economic development, entertainment and leisure activities, to interact with the local population and understand the context and the socio-economic conditions in the local community develops.
