Abstract

Explaining the expansion of the modern State in the 20th Century is one of the greatest challenges for social scientists. This article aims to systematize the prominent historical, political, ideological and economic components in literature, concluding that, even though these components are fundamental in some countries, we can’t find aspects that allow us to develop a general explanation. Historians and Economists raising this question –considering these general elements– must analyze which one explains the modern State expansion in each economy.
