School-based suicide prevention in Colombia: Legal gaps, social determinants, andinstitutional transformation

This research analyzes the increase in adolescent suicides within Colombian educational settings through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates law, social sciences, and mental health. Seven interconnected risk categories are identified: institutional sexual violence, substance microtrafficking, digital self-harm cultures, street-based socialization, epistemic injustices in psychiatric diagnosis, neoliberal educational pressures, and necropolitical school environments. The study reveals critical gaps between the current legal framework and its institutional implementation, particularly regarding mental health and school coexistence policies. Likewise, quantitative data show a high number of minors in Bogotá requiring rehabilitation processes due to substance use, while the qualitative analysis demonstrates how contemporary digital dynamics and certain cultural practices intensify suicide-related risk factors. Therefore, an integrated intervention model is proposed, combining anonymous reporting systems with blockchain technology, trauma-informed legal support, and epidemiological surveillance protocols adapted to the Colombian educational context.
