Abstract

Labor absenteeism significantly affects the economy and productivity of the company, affects the absentee worker, peers and occupational safety and health management systems.

Objective: To describe absenteeism due to medical reasons and indirect costs due to incapacity caused by non-specific low back pain of the workers of a health service provider. Methods: an inductive descriptive study was carried out.

Results: It was found that 64.5% of the workers had suffered a work accident and the consequence was a musculoskeletal disorder, and they charged the system with 598 days lost, of which 224 were for non-specific low back pain. The welfare area has the highest absenteeism (60%).

Conclusions: The indirect costs for non-specific LBP are high, due to lost time, decreased quality of service, delayed activities, demotivation, nonconformity and workload for non-absent employees
