Abstract

Numerous institutions, both basic and secondary education and higher education, affirm in their missions or in their P.E.I. that form citizens with critical thinking. However, education researcher Julián De Zubiría, of the renowned Alberto Merani Foundation, maintains that in Colombia only 1% of those over 18 years of age have the capacity to read critically. Despite its commitment to truth, critical thinking is not an island, since it is a partial functional aspect of a very complex central nervous system and plays in the practice of personal interactions in the context of a complex society .
