This article presents the main characteristics of indigenous methodologies that are entering Western educational institutions. These methodologies, based on the knowledge and traditions of Indigenous communities, are becoming increasingly popular and stand out for their holistic approach, environmental respect, and community participation. The findings suggest that these methodologies are a useful tool for addressing the problems of these communities, as they allow the generation of relevant knowledge, participation in decision-making, and the promotion of social change. However, they face challenges such as a lack of resources, limited institutional support, and limited recognition of non-Western knowledge. Despite these obstacles, indigenous methodologies have a significant potential to enrich scientific research and intercultural education.
