Abstract

Traditionally, commercial and service activity in the city of Cartagena has been focused on the businesses established in the city center and the area of the immediate influence of the large stores, both those related to shopping centers and supermarkets, which have given service in areas of middle and high socioeconomic strata. The commercial map has changed and within the coverage strategies it has been sought to bring both shopping centers and supermarkets closer to popular neighborhoods, with the consequent effect of generating subsequent specialized trade, hotels, and other services. In the present work we have analyzed the commercial and service transformations derived from the presence of two large stores and the perception of the inhabitants regarding progress in the neighborhoods, leisure and shopping behavior, in an area of lower-middle and low strata. The mapping of establishments was carried out to determine the commercial offer and a structured survey was applied to 150 residents, the results of which were validated with Cronbach’s Alpha coefcient and analyzed with the application of the Snedecor F test. The results show the contrasting transition from residential to commercial and service areas with the corresponding progress for its inhabitants against the natural social and economic barriers that limit access to large areas of families settl
