Burnout and coping strategies in health care personnel in a level 2 state social enterprise

Objective: To determine the prevalence of Burnout syndrome and coping strategies in a group of workers in the health sector.
Methodology: Correlational, cross-sectional study in a group of 40 workers involved in health care of a Social Company of the State of the municipality of Guapi (Cauca, Colombia), between November 2012 and January 2013. Socio-data were collected. demographic and labor. The MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory) instrument and the Lazarus Coping Modes Scale were applied. Univariate and bivariate statistical analysis (X2) was applied, considering alpha = 0.05.
Results: 77.5% of the studied population were nursing auxiliaries (90% women), whose ages fluctuated between 29 and 49 years. 90% have Burnout syndrome and the most widely used coping strategy is escapeevitation. No significant associations or special trends were observed.
Conclusions: A coincident trend was found between Burnout syndrome and coping strategies; however, no statistical significance was found.
