3. Subject focus and target audience

The scientific journal IJEPH promotes research and the dissemination of research and knowledge in different fields and disciplines of public health and epidemiology, with a view to strengthening the academic level of professions related to public health.

4. Types of articles and language

The journal publishes mainly in English.

Its subject matter is public health and epidemiology, with the following types of articles:

Editorial. A document written by the journal's editors or requested by the editorial team. This type of document may contain the editor's position on a particular topic, and journal updates. It can also be an editorial to comment on an article included in the issue to be published.

Original articles. These articles report original research studies that are relevant to public health. They should be written in a clear and coherent manner and contain the following sections: introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and conclusions.

Point of view or reflection. These are discussion articles with practical or research questions relevant to public health. You can suggest a new area or approach to research, prevention, practical implementation, or the possibilities for implementing research results. Although the presentation format is more flexible, the approach must be critical and scientifically valid. It is the analysis or interpretation of a fact or circumstance of reality that you deem to be of interest, carrying out a careful analysis and personal interpretation, and issuing an opinion or evaluative judgment on the matter.

Review article.

These articles are critical evaluations of already published studies and research; they critically analyze the state of knowledge in a specific area or topic based on the published bibliography. It must have an objective in order to address the topic adequately. By organizing, integrating and evaluating previously published material, the author of this type of article considers the progress of research to clearly address a current problem. With this material the authors seek to define and clarify a research problem, synthesize previous studies to inform the reader about the status of a given research topic, and propose the steps to be taken to solve a problem.

Scoping review. A document that synthesizes evidence based on a broader review objective (generally topics that are little known and explored). It has a systematic methodology, similar to systematic reviews and contrary to the practice of narrative reviews. They can include all types of information. They must follow the PRISMA-ScR recommendations (http://www.prisma-statement.org/Extensions/ScopingReviews?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1).

Systematic review and meta-analysis. It is a synthesis article of the available evidence, in which a review of quantitative and qualitative aspects of primary studies is carried out, with the objective of summarizing the existing information on a particular topic.

Review and case report. As this is a journal on epidemiology and public health, greater weight will be given to the literature review, and the case report will serve as the basis or foundation for that review. It should contain a description of the case, the clinical treatment, and the impact of that treatment.

Technology and health. These are articles that describe research or actions that impact the health of individuals or communities, using innovative technologies, novel diagnostic aids, or mobile applications. Evidence of the impact on health must be provided.

Policy Brief.  Is a short, strategic document that summarizes research evidence and analysis on a specific topic to guide decision-making and public policy formulation. It presents the problem, key evidence, and clear, actionable recommendations for policymakers, academics, and the public in a concise and accessible way for non-specialist audiences.

Experiences. This section features personal and reflective narratives from professionals who share pivotal moments, meaningful anecdotes, or unexpected turning points that have shaped, challenged, or redefined their professional path. We seek stories that reveal the human side of science: passion, perseverance, ethical dilemmas, transformative failures, and unexpected events.

Fact sheet. A concise, structured document that presents essential, objective, and verified information on a specific topic in a quick and easy-to-understand manner. Its main purpose is to communicate key facts, statistics, and important points to a very broad audience. It focuses on a single topic, such as a specific disease, a new government policy, or a technological advance.

Letter to the editor. These are brief comments on articles published in the journal that require clarification or additional information from the authors. They may also include research updates that require urgent dissemination or topics that may be of interest to the authors but cannot be published in the short article category.

5. Frequency of publication

The journal is published twice a year on a rolling basis. Articles are accepted on the understanding that they contain original data from research projects that have been duly approved by institutional ethics and research committees and have not been submitted simultaneously to another journal.
