Introduction: The COVID-19 disease has changed the lives of many people in the world, the perception of the need for biosafety and the proper evaluation of biological risks, especially in medical units. The risk assessment of infection for COVID-19 in work areas in hospitals is a necessity today, since being able to take corrective and preventive measure to reduce the risk of infection for COVID-19, therefore, reduce the cases of infection within medical units and even its probable transmission to collaborators or patients.
Objective: To assess the risk of infection for COVID-19 in various hospital and administrative areas.
Methods: A measurement of the risk of infection for COVID-19 was carried out at the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital, Guayaquil, Ecuador. 35 areas were evaluated, subdivided into seven groups, for this purpose the COVID-19 risk assessment protocol was used as an evaluation tool.
Results: The results indicated that 86% of the evaluated areas had high risk and 14% had medium risk. Administrative areas being those with the lowest risk and critical areas those with the highest risk.
Conclusions: The critical areas of the hospital presented a high risk of infection for Sars-Cov-2 according to the PER-COVID-19 measurement, this represents a significant risk of morbidity and mortality for the workers of the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital that could translate into a significant temporary and even permanent absenteeism and the possibility of consequences (occupational diseases).
