Validation of the STANFORD PRESENTEEISM SCALE - SPS 6 for health sector institutions in Colombia

Background: Presenteeism is an organizational phenomenon that involves remaining at work, but with physical factors such as untreated illnesses and/or emotional factors such as stress, family situations, among other distractions. These conditions represent a challenge for companies because it directly impacts productivity and the achievement of institutional objectives, which is why in recent years it has become a topic of interest in research worldwide.
Aim: To validate the Stanford Presenteeism Scale SPS-6 in health institutes through Colombian context adaptation.
Methods: A study of cultural adaptation and validation of the SPS-6 instrument was conducted with 301 nurses. The validation process included: translation and back-translation of the instrument from English - Spanish - English, application of the Delphi method, pilot test and calculation of Cronbach's alpha coefficient.
Results: Cronbach's alpha index was 0.637, the linguistic adaptation and the Delphi method favored the reliability of the instrument and its validity, this process allowed the respondents to understand the purpose of the instrument.
Conclusion: The SPS-6 in the nursing population showed that those who manifest Presenteeism have an underlying physical or emotional health condition. The research process shows that the SPS-6 is a valid and reliable instrument to be applied in health institutions in Colombia
