Currently absenteeism affects the industry and more when there is imbalance with the quality of life of workers, leading to deterioration of the productivity; accounting quantifiable cost for temporary disability, Objective: To identify the causes of the laboral absenteeism and the relationship with the perception of the quality of laboral life of the chain stores workers in order to establish improvement plans. Methods: observational, retrospective, quantitative study with comparison group, included 105 workers. Describing absenteeism for medical reasons; analyzing the socio-demographic variables occupational and assessment of four dimensions of quality of working life with a survey likert. Results: Were observed 222 events of absenteeism, either 44 workers; 2,176 hours non-long working. The socio-demographic and occupational characteristics are comparable with the exception of age; absentees were not absent among 45-56 and 20-68 years. Predominance in high school absentees, relations with regular partners and contracts: fixed term showing statistically significant difference, with diagnoses associated with viral processes, deformities members, abdominal and pelvic pain. Conclusion: the analysis of sociodemographic and occupational variables; evaluation of diagnostic staff absentee and application questionnaire of quality of working life show relationship between absenteeism and the perception of the quality of working life but without association with diagnoses presented by the absentee group.
