Abstract

This research was carried out with the aim of analyzing the social security conditions of informal workers in the Sao Sector in the city of Cartagena. To reach it, surveys were applied in order to know information of great importance such as the health conditions of informal workers either due to their work or work diseases, accessibility to health systems and their knowledge about their social security rights, help they receive or have received from the Columbian state, among others. This information allowed to have knowledge about the applicability of Social Security to informal workers or so-called street vendors in the Sao sector, according to its basic concept given by the state in its Political Constitution of 1991, where it is established that this is the guarantor of Social Security of all Colombians in its fourth component established in Law 100/93 General Pension System,  S.G. of health, Occupational risks and complementary social service in which it is focused on the elderly. For the preparation of this study, surveys were applied to 121 sellers of the 128 who are registered in the sector, according to the census carried out by Pacaribe in 2016, showing as a result that 43% do not know what social security is as a right, cases such as that of the 121 respondents only 1 person has a pension and only 2 have contributed pension; these are some of the study variables that will be presented later.  Among the main conclusions, it is observed that, although there is an attempt by the government to apply this guarantee to social security, it still has a lot of work to do, since the current programs that, although they cover an important part, do not cover everything leaving the component of the risks work without protection. In addition, that the health conditions of these people are not very good because only 2% do not have diseases due to work, what talking with them many said that regardless of what will afflict them they always tried to go to work since it does not have a system that generates a disability, making many get for self-medication and not access health services, which represents another unprotected point of guarantees.
