Abstract

Organizations that interact in the management of reusable household solid waste, with the passage of time, are exposed to difficulties in walking on the path of sustainability. In this article, it builds a model for the sustainability of the usable household solid waste market in Neiva, Colombia, to simulate two scenarios of public policy intervention strategies, in a 30-year horizon, using a qualitative methodology through the Dynamics of Systems and the semi-structured interview. Among the results, the need to make the price work as a mechanism of interaction between buyers and sellers stands out, but with the necessary regulation of prices by the State. As conclusion, concentrated strategies only to affect supply are not enough in the long term. It is also necessary to establish, simultaneously, strategies that encourage demand, in such a way that the profitability of recycling organizations increase.  It is also necessary to simultaneously establish strategies to stimulate demand in order to increase the profitability of recycling organizations, improve the income of waste pickers and contribute to the environment, by reducing the amount of solid waste that go to the Los Angeles Landfill, thanks to the circular economy adopted by the industry that uses this waste as raw material
