Abstract

After the fall of the socialist bloc and the end of the Cold War, the panorama of politics, economy and global security has changed radically. In this research article we analyze the role of national security as an integral concept that must respond to the multiple and complex challenges of each region of the globe. It was found that the end of the bipolar world meant changing scenarios in terms of international security. The end of the dispute between capitalism and communism, after the emergence of a global hegemonic power and the absence of a security system that responded to the rapid change of history to which humanity was attending, generated the need to redefine the rules of game in the world in function of the possible existence of weapons of mass destruction and of multiple regional conflicts. It is concluded that the current hemispheric security scheme tends to collapse due to the neglect of countries and the dismantling of efforts to control pressing security situations.
