ABSTRACT
During 2020 and 2021 SARS CoV2 (COVID-19) affected about 570,000 health care workers and 2,500 have died from COVID-19 in the Americas(1).
Objective
To determine the prevalence of infection by Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the nursing staff of the Santa Monica hospital in the municipality of Dosquebradas during 2020 and 2021.
Method
It was a descriptive observational study, an instrument owned by the WHO was applied, using 7 of the 10 variables that are: identification and basic information, exposure to patients with (COVID-19), symptoms of the health worker, respiratory symptoms, radiological report, treatment - medications, pre-existing ailments of the health worker.
Results
The prevalence of infection was 22.3% during 2020 and 2021, also highlighting that 60% of the personnel interviewed corresponded to workers dedicated to COVID patients, female gender in 96%, with lack of training in the care and management of the COVID patient in 24% of the population; and with presence of constant symptom in exposed employees, such as sore throat in 60%.
Conclusions
The causal epidemiological triangle. Regarding the host, SARS COV2 infection prevailed in nursing assistants. In the environment, it was possible to determine that the prevalence of SARS COV2 infection was in the Santa Monica institution due to the collapse of the service, highlighting that 76% of the personnel received training on COVID-19 positive patient care. Regarding the agent, more than half of the study population was present in COVID-19 positive patient procedures, which substantially increased the risk of infection by the SARS COV2 virus, since the source of infection is through respiratory particles.
