Abstract

Chromium and chromium nitride CrN/Crmultilayers were deposited on AISI 304 stainlesssteel, AISI 1075 and AISI 4140 substrates byReactive Magnetron Sputtering. The coatings werestudied using XRD, Nanohardness, wear and COFusing Ball on Disc and corrosion tests by LPR(Linear Polarization Resistance) and Tafel curves. The XRD pattern showed (111) characteristicsorientation of CrN (FCC) and δ – Cr phase. The coatings hardness showed a dependence ofsubstrate material, such that the wear and frictioncoefficient change too. The corrosion speedon saline environment decreases for all coatedsubstrates, but mayor changes were produced onAISI 304 stainless steel and AISI 1075 steel. Thesetests were carried out in a 3, 5% NaCl solutions.
