The competition to attract tourists has generated a diversification of the offer, because of this, there has been sought ways to generate a positive image for the sake of promoting each destination. Acapulco, as a mature coastal tourist destination, has several attractions. One of these is the socio-cultural heritage offered by the historic neighborhoods located at the traditional area. This is related to the real estate, practices, behavior, and promotion of the values that identify its population. The objective of this research was to know the perception of the historical, social and cultural value of its historic neighborhoods in the traditional area at the port of Acapulco, this, achieved throughout the identification of socio-cultural characteristics and the activities aimed at defining, preserving, and disseminating the heritage for touristic purposes.
The methodology used was a qualitative one, with a systemic approach in order to know and understand the socio-cultural context that favours touristic insertion with the current urban activity, this to work as a basis for sustainable planning and comprehensive training of a tourism product. The heritage development from a systemic approach focuses on the possibility of incorporating cultural tourism in real social terms. The urban dynamism enables internal development, powered by socio-cultural activities in the historic city, without losing sight of the interrelationship between its elements and the influences of the environment.
