A defense of monads

Abstract

The present text reviews the systematic thought of the polymath Gottfried Leibniz, and is nuanced with the reading made by the Spanish philosopher Xavier Zubiri in his work Los Problemas Fundamentales de la Metafísica Occidental, analyzing his chapter dedicated to the German philosopher. The objective is to evaluate the Zubirian reading and his approach to this modern author, comparing the reading of the Spanish philosopher with a brief review of Leibniz's work and philosophical thought. To this end, a hermeneutic reading of Zubiri will be first adopted, as well as a comparative analysis with Leibniz's system. This comparison begins with a brief exposition of each philosophical horizon that the German approached and Zubiri's reading of each one. Finally, some considerations are given in favor and against the treatment that the Spanish does of Leibniz, noting some limitations in the approach of the Spanish, but that, ultimately, in the context of his reading, given in the horizon of a modern metaphysics, fulfills the objective that he wants to delimit in his book.
