Author Guidelines

 The Revista Colombiana de Salud Ocupacional follows the editorial guidelines and adjusts the editorial process to that proposed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) (http://www.icmje.org/). Additionally, it includes ethical considerations to ensure a transparent editorial process (http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/), so it follows the recommendations of the Publications Ethics Committee (COPE) (http://publicationethics.org). The members of the editorial committee and the editorial process have complete independence from the university (http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/journal- owners-and-editorial-freedom.html).

Articles submitted to the RCSO are evaluated by the Turnitin system for plagiarism detection and submitted for peer evaluation according to the principles established for peer review (http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/responsibilities-in-the-submission-and-peer-peview-process.html).

The Master's Degree in Safety and Health at Work of the Universidad Libre, Cali and the research group Esculapio, edit this journal in order to strengthen the visibility of Colombian and Latin American intellectual production and consolidate a support service for the scientific community in terms of improving intellectual production in the area of Occupational Safety and Health.

Objectives and content

The objective of the RCSO is to promote research in the field of Occupational Safety and Health and increase knowledge through the publication of original research articles, reviews and other information of high interest in the field.

The research lines of greatest interest are: Safety and Health at Work; Psychosocial factors in the health-work relationship; Occupational and Environmental Hygiene; Psychosociology of Work; Promotion of Healthy Environments and Prevention of Occupational Risks; Social norms for the development of the social state of law; Management, Organization and Management of Safety and Health at Work; Occupational Medicine, Labor Exposure and Industrial Hygiene; Industrial safety, Ergonomics; and other topics related to occupational health. The authors are free to submit articles in other areas not considered here, as long as they are of the full interest of the Occupational Safety and Health audience.

The journal publishes short and original articles, reviews, letters to the editor, reflection articles, and event memoirs.

 Receipt of articles

The author interested in submitting a manuscript must enter the journal page and register to upload the article directly to the Open Journal System platform (https://revistas.unilibre.edu.co/index.php/rc_salud_ocupa/index).

General Information

The articles are accepted with the understanding that they are original data from research projects duly approved by the Institutional Review Committees to which it takes place and that they have not been submitted simultaneously to another journal.

By submitting a manuscript, the authors agree that the copyright for the manuscript is automatically transferred to the RCSO upon acceptance for publication.

The authors must hide their identity in the article. The names and affiliations of the authors should not appear in the document submitted to the journal. These will be taken from the metadata that the authors record at the time of submission. The results of the peer review can be: accepted, accepted with reviews or not suitable for publication.

All documents must comply with the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Sent to Biomedical Journals” (see: http://www.icmje.org).

The Revista Colombiana de Salud Ocupacional provides permanent, free and unrestricted access to scientific and academic content once published, with the aim of promoting accessibility, visibility and the impact of scientific research on topics related to Safety and health. at work; psychosocial factors in the health-work relationship; occupational and environmental hygiene; psychosociology of work; promotion of healthy environments and prevention of occupational hazards; social norms for the development of the social rule of law; Management, organization and management of safety and health at work; occupational medicine, occupational exposure and industrial hygiene; Industrial safety, Ergonomics; and other issues related to occupational health, based on the principle that offering the public free access to research helps a greater global exchange of knowledge. Article Processing Charges (APC) and Application Charges The Revista Colombiana de Salud Ocupacional does not charge article submission or processing fees to its authors. Copyright Policy

By proposing a work for publication, the authors accept the conditions contained in the authors' guide and transfer to the Revista Colombiana de Salud Ocupacional the patrimonial rights over the article in question, so that it edits, publishes, reproduces, disseminates , market, translate or authorize its translation into any language.

The transferred rights include the publication of the article by any means, be it printed, magnetic or electronic, or by any other support or means of dissemination that exists or may be created in the future, as well as the making of publications through the granting of total licenses. or partial to third parties.

The proposed papers must be original and unpublished, and may not be submitted to any other journal while they are under consideration by the RCSO.

All papers will be published with the full knowledge of the authors.

The signed articles are the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the journal, the Universidad Libre or the institution to which the authors are affiliated.

 Editorial

Document written by the editors of the journal or requested by the editorial team. This type of document may contain a synopsis of the content of the magazine, the position of the editor on a particular topic or the comment on an article included in the number to be published. 

 

Original Research Articles

These articles report original research studies that are relevant to occupational health and safety. They must be clearly and coherently written and contain the sections introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and conclusions.

 

Short Article

These articles report original data limiting themselves to a simple research question or topic that can be concisely reported. They contain the same sections as an original article. 

 

Revisions

The journal accepts articles that follow some standardized methodology for this process as reviews. It should be indicated if it is a thematic, systematic review or meta-analysis. The method used, the bases consulted, the inclusion criteria, the search descriptors, the Boolean equations, the period and the language must be described. A systematic review is characterized by a well-defined question, inclusion and exclusion criteria, systematic literature search, and well-defined methods for synthesizing the results of individual studies. A meta-analysis is defined as a systematic review that also includes statistical analyzes of the results of individual studies. They must follow the PRISMA guide.

 

Letters to the editor

They are brief comments on material published in the magazine, research progress that requires urgent dissemination, or a topic that may be of interest to readers and that could not be published in the short article category.

 

Reflection Articles

They are debate articles with practical or research questions relevant to occupational and environmental health. They may suggest a new area or focus of occupational health research, prevention, or treatment, practical implementation, or possibilities of implementing research results. Although the presentation format is more flexible, the approach must be critical and scientifically valid.

 

IMPORTANT: For the reporting of original research or reviews, the journal recommends that the authors follow the relevant guidelines described by the international Equator-Network consortium (https://www.equator-network.org)

 

Manuscripts Preparation

Manuscripts must be submitted in Spanish. The abstract must be structured (maximum 250 words with the titles: Introduction, Objective, Methods, Results and Conclusions) in Spanish and English.

Acknowledgments should include: contributions that do not justify authorship, acknowledgments to sources of financial support and support material, all types of technical assistance, even if paid, and a statement of potential conflicts of interest (eg, financial relationships with industry, affiliation, or participation in an organization with a direct financial interest in the topic of the article, etc.). A list of each author's contribution (s) to the study (who did what?) Should be placed at the end of the article.

It must be written in Microsoft®Word, with a space and a half (including references) and in a narrow margin format (1.27 cm per side).

 

Cover sheet

Each article must have a cover sheet that includes: title in english and Spanish and name of the authors, academic degrees, affiliations, address of correspondence, telephone, email and ORCID, the two page headings (“running head”) of no more than 60 characters. It must be on a separate sheet from the body of the document to preserve the identity of the authors, at the time it is sent to peers. This document must be uploaded as an annex.

 

Other sections

The rest of the article should have the sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions and References. The acknowledgments must be placed before the references. Any appendix should be placed after the references. Each section should be indicated with a centered heading and in a capitalization.

The materials and methods section should include a subsection on ethical considerations. This subsection must indicate the obtaining of informed consent and the ethical or other reviews that may be applicable, including the name of the committee and the name of the institution that endorses it.

Tables

Tables must be presented in Word table format, consecutively numbered in Arabic numerals and accompanied by a title. All tables must be self explanatory and must supplement the text, not duplicate it. They must be included within the text, after the mention in it. They must not contain vertical or horizontal lines inside the table.

 

Figures

All illustrative material should be considered as a figure and should be presented separately. All figures must be mentioned in the text and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. Figures and figure legends must be included within the document. Additionally, each figure must be sent in a separate file, without the legend, in JPG format with a resolution of not less than 300 dpi, or preferably in EPS format. All figures must be in the same proportion or scale.

Authors will receive a PDF of their article to carry out the respective test before publishing.

Publication time

Time between submit and publication could varied due to peer review process. This time varied among 3 and 6 month

Tips for authors

  • Authors must remember that the publishing exercise is based on healthy competition. It is not enough that the article is "acceptable", "good" or "correct", it must be interesting, original and scientifically rigorous.
  • Manuscripts must be written clearly, concisely, and consistently.
  • Follow the instructions for authors to the letter. Manuscripts that do not follow the instructions will be returned for correction, without revision.
