Objectiv To identify the Emic and Etic care documented in patients with diabetic foot amputation in order to raise the modes of action-decision to facilitate a culturally congruent nursing care at home for these patients. Methodology For the description of the Emic care, the following data collection techniques were used: observation, field notes, and open and in-depth interviews. lt was applied the Logical Framework Matrix and the constructs of Emic and Etic care, and modes of action-decision from Madeleine Leininger's theory of diversity and universality of cultural care. Results Some practices that should be kept were found, such as: adaptation of places in the house for their own personal cleaning, bags under the stump, use of calendula, removal of prosthesis before sleeping, low-sugar food, family support, and placement of religious images. The cares to be restructured were the use of nail clippers and the use of the Cordoncillo plant. The ones to be negotiated were the use of talcum, staying in places with flies, the regulation of medication adherence and the use of nightshade. Conclusions lt was found that half of the identified home care should be negotiated and restructured to provide culalf should be kept encouraging their preservation.
