Abstract

The raw material waste, as part of the production process of any company, is a problem that must be treated, due to the losses of money that may be conveyed. Hence, it is essential to optimize and increase the productivity of processs. Hence, the case of a company in the city of Medellin-Colombia is presented as an option of how it is suitable to provide solutions with plastic products taking into account the care of the environment. Although their products are made with material recovered from surpluses of processes, it has been observed that the use of this type of raw material causes failures, affecting profit margins. The implemented methodology to solve the company's problem is the Discrete-event simulation, which after making a diagnosis of the situation, and the analysis of the production line, solution scenarios are proposed to invest in new work items. According to the results, this methodology fairly contributes the most to the problem solving, since it is observed that the reduction of waste concerns to 70 % approximately
