Keywords:
Autonomy, Foreign Language Learning, Learning Strategies, German LanguagAbstract
This article addresses an action research study on the perceptions of autonomy regarding language learning in the Foreign Languages Department at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. The project seeks to analyze the perception of students and teachers of German by contrasting their views and strategies. Data compilation was collected through surveys with mainly closed questions applied to 20 students and 10 teachers. A specialized documentary analysis was also undertaken. Results show that there is a difference between the perceptions of students and teachers, but the strategies employed are similar. To conclude, the sense of autonomy within learning settings ought to be reinterpreted in order to establish a common ground in terms of the expectations and actions regarding teachers’ role in the language learning process.
