Knowledge and healthy behaviors of people diagnosed with hypertension

The purpose of the research was to determine the knowledge about the disease and healthy behaviors of people diagnosed with high blood pressure in a State Social Hospital of level I at the municipality of Palmira-Valle in 2016. It made a descriptive, non-experimental, quantitative, transverse study with sampling by clusters to 150 people who attend the program of control of the blood pressure. 41% know the definition of hypertension, 64% identify normal blood pressure values and 49% recognize how it is diagnosed. Regarding the behaviors 51% is in overweight and 49% do not currently perform any physical activity. The results conclude that the knowledge deficit is associated with poor adherence of the information on the subject and poor health practices are related to low income and sedentary lifestyle
