Sexual education program and citizenship construction: a tool for strengthening the curriculum from research and nursing activities

Abstract

This paper retells the experiences that have allowed nursing students and their teachers to work together with other teachers, counselors and administrators from different educational institutions at elementary, secondary and higher education. It has been developed, implemented and evaluated different research and intervention proposals, addressing sexuality from a different perspective, such as the appreciative and autobiographical models, leaving out the traditional “Risk Approach” taken from the health sciences. These experiences of building knowledge, intervention and yet experiential, are approached from the guidance provided by the research group of nursing education at Universidad del Quindío. These are teachers trained in different areas of knowledge. The experiences were initially shared with the subjects involved in the study and later they were socialized at different governmental workshops sponsored by the Ministry of Education at local and national levels. The logistical, academic and epistemic aspects have been presented. These aspects have served as a tool for enhancing knowledge building and innovation strategies in the project Sexual Education and Citizenship Building of the Ministry of Education. They have also contributed to draw a base line, with the firm intention to see if, from the teachers´ cloisters and from the experience of training nurses, we have the ability to educate on the individual deconstruction of society and the collective construction of this one.
