Unilateral pectoralis agenesis is known as Poland's anomaly and is characterized by unilateral absence of the pectoralis minor muscle and partial absence of the pectoralis major muscle, and can be associated with nipple abnormalities, syndactyly, symbrachydactyly, amastia, subcutaneous cellular tissue hypoplasia, unilateral renal agenesis and dextrocardia. The accepted etiology is vascular alterations during subclavian differentiation. Our patient is a 16-year-old adolescent, who consulted for asymmetry of breast development, with no history of consanguinity and no exposure to teratogens. Physical examination showed normal facie,
hypoplasia of the left hemithorax and breast, with nipple and areola displaced towards the axillary region (Tanner II) and brachydactyly of the left index finger; the right breast expressed Tanner V. Chest X-ray showed translucent left hemithorax, and the karyotype was reported as 46, XX. With the diagnosis of Poland syndrome, genetic and family psychological counseling
was performed with referral for plastic surgery.
