Abstract

The mobile laser scanner is an emerging technology that has been taking hold in the LiDAR industry. This instrument has the ability to accurately capture topographic and geometric information of the surrounding objects and operate in motion with the integration of 360º cameras and position and navigation receivers. The technological advance has allowed to integrate the remote sensors to conform the systems of mobile mapping and to provide solutions for the acquisition of spatial data of fast and profitable form. The information collected is used for virtual navigation at the street level and urban planning. The objective of this study is to provide a review of the state of knowledge about the trend in the implementation of commercial mobile mapping systems and prototypes developed at the academy worldwide indicating the technical specifications and design fundamentals of the main components.
