Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in recent years has gained great importance for the actions of companies because their activities have repercussions, not only for their shareholders, but for the different actors with whom they are related. This article makes the application of the biological metaphor of the tree of science in order to carry out a review of the CSR and competitiveness literature. This methodology makes it possible to carry out a chronological structuring of the literature in which the root, trunk and leaf documents of the subject are grouped. In total, 216 documents were found in the Scopus database in which the seminal, structural and branch documents (subareas) were identified. The three research sub areas identified were: CSR strategies, the relationship of SMEs with CSR and, finally, CSR and its positive effect on companies.
