Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: Child malnutrition continues to be a public health problem. Its prevalence is higher in families with food vulnerability. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and characterize the main risk factors related to malnutrition in children under 5 years of age in a tourist population in Colombia: Ararca and Santana in Baru Island. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out using primary sources. Results: Of 105 children evaluated, 36% were at risk of malnutrition, 1.9% were in a state of global malnutrition; 19% were at risk of acute malnutrition and 1% were characterized as severe acute malnutrition. Conclusion: Malnutrition has a series of negative consequences that, if not comprehensively addressed, have a great impact on infant morbimortality. Socioeconomic variables are constituted as initiators and perpetuators of child malnutrition.
