Keywords:
Gastroenteritis, Gastrointestinal disease, Abdominal painAbstract
Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare entity, with fewer than 300 cases reported worldwide, its etiology has not yet been defined and the diagnosis is one of exclusion, with histological confirmation of eosinophilic infiltration of the intestinal wall, not associated with parasitic infestation and without involvement of other organs. This case report corresponds to that of a teenager who presented generalized abdominal pain and emesis which increased in intensity accompanied by signs of peritoneal irritation. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy which finding was of ascites and the histopathological study of peritoneal fluid revealed eosinophilia. The diagnosis was confirmed by gastric biopsy and was treated with prednisolone was started; the patient is currently in remission after two years of follow up. In this article, we report the case and a review of the literature.
