Social problems of the historical and cultural center of Barranquilla

Abstract

The research was aimed to show the existence of the historic center of Barranquilla, and its relationship with the social problems of the city. To this end an analytical descriptive design was used research showing that there is a strong identity of citizens with its historic center as a cultural asset in permanent construction. The case of Barranquilla is analyzed as its social and urban evolution differs from the many historic towns of the Colombian Caribbean. A notable result is that despite being a modern city, Barranquilla has a historical, dynamic and complex center, where it originated its expansion to become the fourth largest city in Colombia. It was also concluded that the historic center of Barranquilla and power concentrated all social problems such as poverty, drugs, crime, etc.., Which urges social recovery before and architectural aesthetics.
