Psychomotor performance in a childern group of low social strata at the city of barranquilla, 2012-2013

Abstract

Background: Childhood is considered as a transcendental stage in the evolutionary process of man, characterized by two phenomena: growth and development, for which an environment is fundamental besides the suitable biological conditions that favors it. Objective: To identify the level of psychomotor performance according to the brief Scale of the Development in a group of 0-5 Children years old of low social strata in the city of Barranquilla. Material and Methods: One is a retrospective descriptive study, in which the brief Scale of the Development was used to determine the psychomotor development of 300 children of 0 to 36 months of age which they attend to a program of integral attention in the Fundacion Huellas con Futuro; the sum allowed to determine the state of development of the children and to classify it in: alert, low, average, high average and high with systematization, we used software SSPS version 19. Results: 51 % were females and 49 % of them were masculine; the age of greater frequency was in a rank of 13 to 18 months (32 %); in all the areas of the motor skills the average performance was one of greatest frequency: 194, gross motor skills; 194, adaptive fine motor skills; 186, hearing and language; 156, social personnel. Conclusions: In the group of studied children most of them are in a middle level and alerts for all the areas of psychomotor performance, which is an indicator of the need of follow, even rigorous, because of its conditions of risk.
